Many health services can be accessed without the need to see a doctor first and instead can be accessed directly via a self-referral. From mental health support to tackling addiction, from weight loss management programmes to diabetes services, from accessing social support to supporting a family member at the end of life. There is a spectrum of help available for those who seek it.
NHS Talking Therapies
NHS Talking Therapies can help provide support and treatment for common mental health problems, such as: Feeling anxious, feeling low and hopeless, panic attacks, finding it hard to cope with work, life or relationships, struggling with flashbacks or nightmares about upsetting events from your past, feeling stressed, worrying a lot, obsessive thoughts or behaviours,fear of social situations, being afraid of things, such as spiders, flying or heights (phobias).

SPACE Hertfordshire is a Hertfordshire-based charity supporting families of children and young people who are neurodivergent (Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia, Tourette’s and other neurodiverse conditions).

Change Grow Live
Change Grow Live offers clinical interventions, as well as psychological and social support for any age. They help with challenges including drugs or alcohol, trouble with housing, domestic abuse, or your mental and physical wellbeing. Treatments are tailored to your needs by a range of professionals, under one roof.
The Living Room
The Living Room offers intensive, daily support for alcohol and any other addictions for any age. Treatments are abstinence-based and follow a structured programme based on the 12-step process, including peer support. Based in Hertfordshire, their daily group therapy sessions take place their hubs in Stevenage, St Albans and Watford.

DrugFAM offers support to families, friends and partners who are affected by a loved one’s use of drugs, alcohol or gambling.
Diabetes Prevention Programme
The NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme, also known as the Healthier You programme, is a nine-month lifestyle change programme designed to help prevent type 2 diabetes in those who are at risk of developing it.
The Healthier You programme is available both as a face-to-face group service and as a digital service. When referred into the programme, people are free to choose between the two.
Stop Smoking Service
This is a Hertfordshire County Council led service designed to help people quit smoking. Quitting smoking is one of the best things anyone can do for their physical and mental health and people are three times more likely to stop smoking with this service than quitting without support. The service is free of charge and advisors will provide tailored weekly support for up to 12 weeks, either face-to-face or over the phone.

Stevenage Sexual Health Clinic
Stevenage Sexual Health Clinic is a local walk-in clinic within the town centre of Stevenage.The clinic offers the following services: Information, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as Chlamydia, Syphilis, Gonorrhoea, Trichomoniasis, Herpes, Warts, Hepatitis and HIV, Rapid HIV testing, Advice and Information. All methods of contraception (excluding the vaginal ring) including coils and implants, Emergency Contraception, Pregnancy Testing and Free Condoms.

Healthy Hubs Hertfordshire
Healthy Hubs Hertfordshire is a health and wellbeing organisation with local centres throughout Hertfordshire. The Stevenage hub can be found at Stevenage Arts and Leisure Centre and it works in close partnership with Stevenage Borough Council. They provide advice, information and support to help improve everyone’s health and wellbeing.
